Jamsy: The safe value of French Krump
What do you think when you are told Krump? Others will tell you that it is a dance of savageness, without elegance. Jamsy has a completely different definition of krump, for him this dance is the “dance of life”. Krump expresses emotions, and Jamsy became one of the pioneers. But how did he get to the top? What are his best experiences or what is Krump for him? You’ll know everything in this portrait.
From Basketball to Krump
It’s 11:00 am when Jamsy gets our call. He speaks with an assured voice, and seems ready to answer all our questions. His very confident voice is in tune with the dance that Jamsy chooses to express himself: krump.
Today he is one of the pioneers in his field. This was not always the case, in fact for Jamsy only basketball mattered. He even played the sport for 8 years. It was thanks to friends that the dancer discovered krump and this dance was love at first sight for Jamsy. No more basketball, now it’s krump.
Jamsy fell in love with Krump because it allowed him to “heal from his traumas”, but also because it is an“authentic”dance. Krump is a real outlet that allowed Jamsy to make his handicap an asset.
Indeed, Jamsy burned his arm at the age of 4.The dancer was the victim of bullies from his friends because of the accident. But that didn’t stop him from pursuing his dreams and becoming the best in his field.
Jamsy the Warrior
When he is on stage, he is no longer Edwin Saco but Jamsy, a name that he thinks represents “a warrior”. We can say that he chose his stage name well since he is a true force of nature, and a beast in his field.
He is certainly a warrior, but no one is born a warrior, we become one. But then, how did Edwin Saco become Jamsy? Well, it’s thanks to years of perfection and to working alongside the best in its field. Wes, Sanka, Koncrete are dancers who accompanied him and helped him improve his skills.
And in 2019 it is the consecration since Jamsy was crowned world champion of Krump. 2019 will remain in the memory of the dancer since it is also during this year that he participated in La France a un incroyable talent (America got talent French version).
It is this show that will open the doors to a world of opportunity and that will make him known to the general public. It is there that he performs his solo Liberation in only two minutes. In 2 minutes Jamsy manages to conquer the hearts of the audience, thanks to the strength of his story and his dance steps.
A world of opportunity
La France à un incroyable talent (French version of America’s got talent”) was a real springboard for Jamsy. Indeed, the famous show opened the door to a lot of opportunities. Thus, Krump’s dancer was able to tread the stages of the Paris Opera.
Jamsy took part in the short film Les Indes Galantes by Clément Cogitore which was filmed at the Paris Opera.
With this film, he was able to prove that krump is not a dance related to anger as everyone claims. Krump can also blend in with other styles without staining or denoting it.
What’s next ?
While Jamsy has dance in his blood , he has turned to other disciplines. The dancer is a true curious that has several strings in its bow. Indeed, Jamsy is also a director, beatmaker and slammer.
Jamsy certainly has a lot of hats, but he doesn’t forget the dance that remains his first love. So it’s only natural that the dancer is also a choreographer, conveying to everyone his taste and passion for Krump.
To top it all off, Jamsy also created his krump championship. This championship is called sbl (Straight BuckLeague) and features krump dancers and their crew.
If you are interested you will be able to see it this Saturday, April 8 in Paris. This will give you a better understanding of what krump is, because krump is more than a dance, it is a movement, an “authentic dance” that takes you by the throat and the guts.
